Pizza was a weekly ritual while I was in college. Most of the time I made it myself though when my budget would allow I’d pick up some delicious Papa Johns.
I picked up this recipe from a buddy in school. I have no idea where he got it but I’ve since found variations of it published all over the internet.
It’s quick, easy, and tastes delicious. Here’s the recipe:
- 2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 Teaspoon White Sugar
- 1 Envelope Active Dry Yeast (2 1/4 Teaspoons)
- 3/4 Teaspoon Salt
- 3/4 Cups Warm Water
- 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
Over the years I’ve changed up this recipe a number of times. I’ve found that the sugar is rather optional. And if you want to cut back on the olive oil you can just do 2 Tablespoons.
You may need to add more water or flour. The dough should have enough flour that it doesn’t stick to your hands too easily.

What I really love about pizza is how versatile it is. You can put whatever you want on it, there really isn’t a wrong way to do pizza.
With this recipe you can make mini pizzas, calzones, pizza cups, or even bread sticks.
As far as materials you need, a basic pan and a roller is all you need. We use a pizza stone now which cooks the bottom much better but when you’re on a budget a basic pan will work just fine.
